IIi Heads/ Gossip

Théodule-Augustin Ribot, 1823-1891

I suppose Ribot's painting attracts me for several reasons, I think the fact, especially when viewing from afar, that it resembels a photograph or snapshot is the main thing. As though the man had just be caught the camera focusing in and with his intent gaze he directly addresses it. And I guess here lies the second attraction, his gaze, all knowing and slightly haunting.
