What it is that draws me to this image, bizarre and warped as it is, I am not entirely sure.
Perhaps it lies in the balance that an image of a similar stance/ face exudes, much like an Arbus'esque twin, or likewise a Sander portrait of twins.
Yet though these women at first take could be confused for twin sisters, on closer inspection they are clearly not. The eye is immediately deceived by the pattern and colour tones of not only their similar patterned shirts, but also by their parallel hairstyle and colour.
More importantly it is their matching expression as they confront the camera that commands the image and demands a second, a third inspection.
