Seismic trace

Avigdo Arikha
Self portrait Shouting one morning,
Paris 7th November 1969

' I was in a filthy mood. I climbed out of bed, yelling at my wife, yelling at the shaving mirror'....

I discovered Avigdor's work a few years ago at a temporary exhibition at the British Museum. Interestingly enough his work was really his salvation, his drawings were noticed and rescued him from a Nazi concentration camp. There is a certain energy and spirit in his work. He has a great gift at capturing the essence of someone through his portraits.
