I return again to the work of Bellocq. I am reminded part of their charm, their very essence and what makes them so amazing lie in their expressions.
The sitters though clearly aware of the presence of the camera, and of course their 'indecent' (particularly for that time) exposure do not strike false or even 'sleazy' poises. They just meld into their beautiful surroundings. The prints on the wall, the cracks in the plate from age enhance this fragility and revelatory nature of the work; depictions of nude women/prostitutes...
