Mademoiselle Hélène
Le Boucher left a bigger impression on me than I envisioned. Chabrol's use of close up/ zooming out was especially interesting.
Plus the fact that the story enfolds in a school, a place one usually associates with safety does lull you into that false sense of security so often used in thrillers..
The final scene of Le Boucher in all its simplicity proved all the more striking. The main Character Hélène played by Stéphane Audran just stands there, her lost expression and frozen stance all the more emphasized by the constant, unchanging camera shot. The only noticeable change is the light, as day breaks. Hélène's face becoming more visible and clear, her state of shock remaining as strong as ever.
