Ed Ruscha
The thing this image immediately asks or rather plays with is whether of not it is a painting or a photograph. If you know the artist and the medium they generally are inclined to use then the answer is easy.
A fan of Richter's work, would know better then to be fooled from the outset and confuse the perfect likeness for a photograph. Where as with Ruscha, the majority of his work is achieved through painting, and since he does use photography we are unable to make rash assumptions. Closer inspection/ caption reading clearly a necessary requirement.
